Winter Hits

The highly anticipated winter months are upon us. The northern areas are already experiencing a large impact from storms and associated weather. Temperatures are consistently decreasing, ice cold rain is wreaking havoc, and snow is beginning to blanket the ground of several states. Rest assured that these preliminary systems are only the taste of what’s ahead.

Winds and rain have pounded on the Midwest in the months of August and September and now that winter has arrived even more severity is in store. Temperatures have plummeted into the teens and in some places even lower. The freezing, Artic winds blowing through this region make it bitter cold outside and give rise to further weather conditions. Rain storms have moved in making it difficult to travel. Also, the cold temperatures complimented with this intense rain have produced icing in several areas as well.

Here is a breakdown of what we are currently experiencing. The Midwest and parts of Canada are enduring clipper storms that bring heavy rain and snow. The New England portion of the U.S. is dealing with snow storms and extremely low temperatures. The southern states of the Midwest are still a little bit warmer yet this will change soon. It is expected that temperatures may be warmer this winter than years in the past, nonetheless snow is here and more is on its way.

Winter is a beautiful time of year with priceless scenery, fireplaces lit, chimneys smoking, people enjoying the fun of recreational activities in the snow; yet it can also be an awaking if not properly prepared. Therefore, it is vitally important to ensure that your household has enough food, gas, and supplies. Check to see that the generator is functioning properly in case of power outages. Ensure that your vehicles are properly equipped with suitable tires and accessories. Check the snow blower if necessary to ensure it is working correctly and has plenty of fuel. It is these precautions that will enable you to bask in the pleasures of winter and now fall subject to negative consequences.
